Good To Be Back

Home repair/improvement is still taking up much of my weekends. But after seeing Stan's recent report of rising water levels, I just had to get away to the lake, even for just a few hours. I didn't have enough time to fish my usual tuc spot, so yesterday afternoon I took my son and a bucket of live ...

Thanks for the report, Stan. I've been busy with home improvement and haven't been to the lake in a few months, so it's good to hear that the lake level is back up in the grass. As a shoreline guy, I actually prefer the high water over low water - it makes the shoreline tucs easier to access and fin...

Yeah, out of curiosity, I've tried those small aholehole that migrate up from brackish water into the lower reaches of freshwater streams. They're bright and shiny like threadfin shad, and the tucs eat them. But they're kinda fragile and require good oxygenation. They don't stay lively too long when...

Interesting poll, and a tough question. How about a one choice for large tucs and one choice for smaller tucs? For larger tucs (4 lbs. and up), I'd choose a 3 to 4-inch tilapia - "tuc candy". For smaller tucs, I'd choose a 1-1/2 to 2-inch medaka (mosquitofish or liberty molly). If possible, I try to...

Thanks for the update, 007bassinassassin. You're right, that is a surprise. After all that rain, I expected the water to be murky and near full pool, or at least that the saddle between the island and the shore would be submerged.

Really appreciate your report - thanks again. :)

Report From The Lake

http://upload4.postimage.org/1462765/tuc001.jpg Sunny day today. The water level looked to be about 6 feet down, leaving the shoreline grass high and dry. Without grass cover, many of the larger tucs were cruising deep in the sunken tree branches along the shore. It's tough fishing trying to pull r...

Modest Man - As you explore, work the pockets and grasslines slowly and you'll locate some really good tuc holes. I often see people buzz through an area that holds tucs and then quickly move on if a couple of casts don't produce strikes. Also, it won't hurt to see where the other boaters are concen...

Report From The Lake

As Stan indicated yesterday, the lake is at or near its highest level. The water is slightly murky but still has good clarity (about 1-1/2 ft.). The water level is way up into the shorline grass, making for exellent tuc cover. The tuc action is off the hook right now. Early on, we watched unidentifi...

Good to hear that the water level is back up and is clear, but sorry to hear about the slow action. Maybe the water temp went down with the influx of runoff from the recent rains. High water is usually good for shoreline tuc action in the grass - I'm heading to the lake tomorrow and will report back...

Report From The Lake - Sept. 24, 2006

After last week's rains, the water level has risen about 2 feet. The shoreline tuc action remains good. I spent a few hours at the lake this morning released 19 tucs between 1 lb. 6 oz. and 2 lbs. 14 oz. Didn't see any larger tucs today, but saw quite a few packs of 3 to 5 fish cruising the shorelin...

Nuuanu Catfishing

I took my son and his cousin (12 & 10 years old) to Nuuanu Reservoir this past Saturday morning. The water level was way down and we got rained on early but the sky eventually cleared up. Using fresh salmon belly for bait, the boys caught a 7 lb. 7 oz. and an 11 lb. 12 oz. within the first hour....
