Thanks LC! That link is just what I needed. Now, all I need is a visual report from someone on today's water level. Then I can correlate the visual report with today's graph reading. In the future, I'll be able to visualize where the lake's water level is (grass submerged, grass high and dry) just b...

Report On Water Level, Please

Can someone going out on the lake today please post a report on the water level afterward? The water level compared to the saddle across the lake from the homeless camp is a familiar indicator (saddle dry, saddle barely submerged, etc.). Thanks, Good Luck and Good Fishing. Tucmaster (Stan, do you kn...

Report From The Lake - March 16, 2008

Here's a late shoreline report from yesterday. The cove to the left of the boat ramp is almost dry and the saddle to "saddle island" across from the homeless camp is just about exposed. The lake looks to be about 4 feet below high water level. The water is the normal green. A bucket full of live bai...

The Dark Side???

I've always been a landlubber (no boat), and nowdays can get up to the lake only sporadically. Live bait greatly increases my chance for success in the few hours of shoreline fishing that I do manage to get in. So you can count me in as a "dark sider". But like I've said previously, lure chuckers or...

That's good news. In the good ole days, the lake was full of tilapia (tuc food), especially around the C&C sewer outfall, and all over the lake as well. But after the banded jewel cichlids arrived . . . I hope the schools of tilapia that you saw are a sign of things to come regarding forage for ...

Live Bait This Week

The cove by the boat ramp almost dry, Boy Scout Island saddle almost dry - wow that IS low. The California grass along the shore must be high and dry. If you like to target the larger shoreline cruising tucs during low water: Try the points first. During low water, the banded jewel cichlids and smal...

Live Bait This Week

Stan - Thanks for the lake update including water temp and water clarity. Frequent updates like yours really do help those of us who can't get up to the lake as often as we'd like to. One more bit of information needed for updates: Can you tell me where the water level is currently at? A good, well-...

Report From The Lake - Nov. 18

Okay guys - thanks for the "live-baiter" support. All I intended to do was provide an update on lake conditions, and what do we get . . . a live-bait "hater"? Stan is on the right track in being diplomatic about the whole thing by inviting Saltydog to a live-bait trip. For those who are unfamiliar w...

Report From The Lake - Nov. 18

Aloha Saltydog. Skills : I fish from shore and don't own a boat - a major disadvantage in competing in the local HFFA tournaments. Perhaps more importantly, I don't have a need to see where my "skill level is really at" by competing against fellow fishermen - my skill level is just fine as is. I fis...

Report From The Lake - Nov. 18

Just a quick report on the lake as of yesterday. The water level remains high in the California grass and the saddle to the island across from the homeless camp is submerged. The water is slightly murky and should return to normal greenish tint soon. We saw a lot of surface feeding action out in the...

Lake Is Full

I agree with Ca_Bass - I catch a lot more fish when the water is high. And yes, in my case, it's a result of the style of fishing that I do - from shore, in the grass, with live bait.

Mounted Tuc

As Stan mentioned, the trend nowadays is replica mounts. Unfortunately, at the time I landed this fish, I wasn’t aware that "peacock bass" replica blanks (unfinished body - no eyes or paint) were available at a few mainland taxidermy supply houses, and that I could have bought one and sent it to my ...

Good To Be Back

Sorry, we didn't bother bringing the camera on this trip. But here's a January photo of him at the same spot (boat ramp in the background) with a 20-inch tuc a bit over 5 lbs. Many of the larger tucs that hang around the boat ramp area have been hooked before and are well-educated, but with patience...
