The sombrero
In last month's HFFA fishing tournament, my fishing partner landed two of the three fish that make up the Lake Wilson Trifecta ( triple crown or grand slam ) as he had both a SMB and a LMB. When I happened to mention that he just needed a Tuc to complete the trio, I think I pressured him out as he c...

In a way I wouldn't be sad at all if no-one ever caught "Pedro" especially anyone who doesn't practice catch and release. I think having "Pedro" in the lake adds to the mystic of Lake Wilson that there is this beast, the destroyer or rods & reels that lives in the lake, waiting for it's next vic...

How to hold fish
I try to handle the fish as least as possible. Touching the gill area is a definite no-no as this is probably the most sensitve part. Holding a fish in your hands could cause internal damage from squeezing as well remove the slime that provides the fish with a protective barrier against fungus infec...

stats from the past
Yes, it was interesting that some of the names that was used backed then are a little different from today. ( ie: crazy man's point and volkswagen point) It would be interesting to know how all the places on Lake Wilson got their respective names and the stories behind how it got it's name. Maybe an...

HI, I got hold of some old tournament fishing journals from the HFFA fishing club and was looking over the tournament summaries from 1992 to the late 1990's. It was interesting reading and here's a sample from late 1992 through 1993. Even back then Kelton was finding and catching the big ones. Sep-9...

Tuesday Report, 15 Mar.
Hi, I'm curious if anyone has looked at the impact of catching spawning Tucs and Bass when they are nesting. If both male and female are caught and then released, do they go back to their nests or do they leave the nest alone. The more disturbing thing are for those that practice the catch but not t...

Fishing Tips: plastic worms
Thanks, the post is very informative:
As a novice at freshwater fishing, I'm still learning the intricacies of different styles & techniques for bass fishing and wanted to learn more about worming so this is a good place for me to start.

How Many Species Of Fish In Our Lake?
Came across this weblink that identifies 68 freshwater species of fish in Hawaii - this might be a place to start and I would guess that there's probably almost all of these fishes found in Lake Wilson and probably more that are not on this list.

How many species of fish in our lake
If you're looking at species that may compete for food with the LMB/Tucunare shouldn't the red neck sliders turtles be included or would their impact be considered negligible. I have two sliders in my small pond at home and they eat everything - I once had three large oscars in my pond, eaten, small...

larger senkos
The 2" senkos are available on Gary Yamamoto's website - have not ordered any as yet since when I tried to price them out, the shipping cost seemed kinda high.

Bass size report thread
HFFA will be having their March tournament next weekend ( provided the water level remains high enough to launch ) so maybe we could record lengths and weights of the bass for that day to see how they match up with the scale. ( I'm assuming you're measuring tip of nose to fork in tail ) I think the ...
