I'll verify that there are "escaped" smallmouths in the stream below Ho'omaluhia. Some of them are as big as four pounds. The fish pepper the stream, but end up going down stream and can't get back up. I was told that there is a place where they are stuck and basically piled up (between the fresh wa...

Great! I look forward to trying my luck at those gills in a few years then. I was told that they are the only thing that will hit a dry fly on the lake. Maybe by then I'll have a boat :? .
Is it hard to fly cast from a boat, Stan? I've only cast from shore so far.

bluegills

I was wondering if anyone knows of howt he bluegills got into the lake long ago. I've been told that they are a blast to catch, and was wondering if there are any plans to restock the lake at anytime.

Wow, I feel almost daunted posting in such a two sided debate with such well educated bass fisherman, but here I go. I was thinking that perhaps we should be looking at the puzzle from another angle. Instead of eliminating that competition (and according to one senario, encouraging the growth of the...

Wow, nice fish. One of the regulars at the bar I work at was telling me that he used to keep a red devil as a pet, and that it was a very responsive fish.

Red Devils on flies

Hey there Fishsing land,
I was wondering if anyone knows of any good color combinations or good flies for red devils? I've got some by my house and they are so fickle. I've caught some, but not consistantly on any fly.
Also, can anyone tell me anything about tying tapered leaders?

Hey Ken, I catch a lot of ciclids by my house using shrimp and a size 16 MZ (curved) hook. I like the curved hook because i find it easier to remove. I'll also use a small piece of worm plastic ( about the size of a capital O). For the plastic i just skit it over the surface at a good speed. Hope th...

Hey Bassinassain, I was watching Bass university and that same question was answered by Mark Zona. Spinning Rods are good for finesse fishing and fishing smaller lures and lines (as you mentioned). Anytime you fish bigger lures (buzz baits, spinner baits, large plugs) or fish around cover (grass, tr...
